Apple's iPhone 17 Pro and Pro Max series, which are very much popular among people, now have the problem of the Orange color variant that was not expected. The users, who have bought these models, can see that the bright orange finish gradually changes to a pinkish or rose-gold hue. This problem has been the cause of much debate online making the possible buyers cautious.
As per the reports, most of the color change has been seen on the standard anodized aluminum frame and users revealing their experiences on Reddit and TikTok have said the same. A Reddit user by the name of DakAttack316 showed his iPhone 17 Pro Max in a photo where the sudden pink tint was blatant but the user claimed that there had been no unusual handing or exposure at all. A few other users also reported the same but in their case, the camera island was darker than the main Cosmic Orange body even when the phones were kept inside Apple's official clear case.
The experts have a different take on this issue and presume that the discoloration might be a result of protracted exposure to UV light or coming in contact with peroxide-based solvents. Apple has very strict guidelines when it comes to cleaning and suggests what not to use through its official cleaning guidelines. The company suggests using 70% isopropyl alcohol, 75% ethyl alcohol, or Clorox disinfecting wipes for cleaning the iPhones followed by a soft, slightly damp lint-free cloth. The cleaning should be done in such a way that no moisture enters the openings and the devices should not be immersed in the cleaning agents at any time.
No official statement from Apple regarding these discoloration reports has surfaced till now. The dislike erstwhile expressed by users of the sudden color shift has been reinforced especially among those users who had to cough up a premium price and eventually wait weeks for the Orange variant. And, the issue indeed raises a question about the new finish's durability and whether handling instructions should be given to prospective buyers at all.
